SunEdu

 

SunEdu is a Tekes-funded project that partners Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Suntrica oy, LeiaMedia oy, and Adamana oy to develop an off-grid learning environment for students without access to reliable electricity and up-to-date educational content, such as in some developing countries and disaster areas. Students would no longer have to use kerosene lamps and share outdated books.

 

In collaboration with Tanzania’s Tumaini University, user research and a study of the local learning environment were conducted near the town of Iringa. Students and their families were asked what kinds of functions they would like the eReader and solar charger to perform. After many months of product design and development, a team traveled back to Tanzania in September 2013 for the three month pilot test of eReader prototypes.
